We are thrilled to announce that Ricky Rapper and Slick Leonard (Risto Räppääjä ja liukas Lennart) has received two major prizes in Germany’s Schlingel international film festival for children and young audiences. The fourth Ricky Rapper film was named Best European Children’s Film, while Samuel Shipway, who portrays Ricky, was named Best Child Actor. Held for the 19th time in Chemnitz, Germany, the festival included 136 films from 50 countries. Ricky Rapper and Slick Leonard has been among 2014’s highest-grossing films in Finland. The next Ricky film, an adaptation of the 14th volume in the bestselling story book series, Ricky Rapper and the Scrooge of Seville (Tammi 2014), will arrive in cinemas in February 2015. Check out the movie’s official Facebook page for behind-the-scenes photos. The book has positioned itself firmly on local children’s and YA bestseller lists since its publication in August 2014.
Ricky Rapper, a creation of authors Sinikka Nopola and Tiina Nopola, is Finland’s most popular contemporary children’s character. The book series, aimed for an 8+ readership, star a red-headed boy who loves playing drums and rapping. If you like Wimpy Kid, you will love Ricky Rapper.
